Re: Pondwood Blank

November 27, 2009 by horsedentist

I meant the fact that ground baiting isn't allowed makes them hunt their own food. Live baiting was allowed but they stopped it because after about a year the fishing completely died a death, stopped the live baiting and the catch rates recovered???  I don't know what the significance was but it was a fact all you got was dropped runs hardly any takes at all.
It isn't that bad there ask ask sas and lophius they have had a session there and the fish are good specimens.ok not mega size but good fighters.

The trouble is Rodney people go there kitten bashing and they are easy to catch so every one thinks its a doddle but if you want the larger ones they ain't that easy.
It can be very prolific at times if you get it right, year before last I had 14 one night. several high twenty's and one at 35 1/2 and one at 36 1/4. Usually you will find the guys that post the high catch rates though are all kittens.
The other problem is it gets a lot of plonkers fishing it because they are after their first cat and the kittens are easy targets. Many people don't weigh them properly either using crap scales and not deducting the weigh sling etc.So weights recorded are often unreliable.
The lake record is only 42 and that was set several years ago! but there must be bigger in there I have hit fish that I just could not stop and finished up snagging me as have other guys who are not plonkers so its just a waiting game to see what eventually comes to the bank.My best out of there is 41 1/4 this year so not a bad fish and had several 30's this year. They can be a bit cany when it comes to bait too some times you really have to think out of the box for the big guys.
The other thing is they are no slugs in there they don't get any feed, as all ground bait and loose feed is banned as is live baiting so they have to hunt, hence  they are really nice long lean fit fish and they have very sharp pads real predators not like some of these force fed comercial cats that spend half their life gorging on boilies.

i have never fished pondwood (never been that desparete lol) but from what i have herd about the place it sounds like it would be the perfect winter water
. overstocked
. very very easy
.and full of kittens

-rodney

It ain't that over stocked you can blank there really easily even at the height of the season (as some of the lads on here will tell you) and it was never over stocked the cats are a result of a stocking of a small number of fish years ago.

Yes Maurice we must be given the opertunity to defend our title lol.

Well I never bother personally although the odd one does get caught it is really only because the bait lands on it.

Re: River Saone or Son as its pronounced

November 22, 2009 by horsedentist

how you gonna get the baits out?  its bloody wide there and slow but strong current, they usually boat em out and clip them up. Eel is a really good live bait on the river if live bait is still allowed.

Where abouts on the Saone are you going to fish Maurice Macon?  Are you just going on your own or are you getting a guide?

Just out of interest they have a new carp record as of the 5/11/09 55lb.

I suggest we wait till everyones there then decide as there are some tight swims and also there are 2 islands at the bottom of the lake but no features at the top.

I thought it was going to be a social but nothing to stop us having a small wager on the side.

Are you going to have any leeches by then maurice?

We need to take maggots for livebait fishing!

Take some sweetcorn too as it will be carp fishing during daylight hours.

Re: Ferry tickets

November 17, 2009 by horsedentist

Hi Eric,Trev and myself are getting the ferry from Dover at about midnight and the crossing to Dunkirk is about 2 hours.  Then it's a nice leisurely drive down to the lake!!!
Should be there by midday with a bit of luck! [image]

We could possibly meet you on the way then cos if we go from portsmouth will be in France about 8 so you will be getting up that way about the same time.

Re: Weigh Tripod

November 17, 2009 by horsedentist

OK.  It appears that my phoning around wasn't as successful as I thought.  The company I ordered from say that they sold the last one before receiving my order and Nash can't (or won't) give a date for when they will get some in!
So, to plan B.....................anyone  got any suggestions?

-adrian2410

Three sticks and a bit of rope?

Re: Landing Nets

October 26, 2009 by horsedentist

Its an absolute beast mate, if I loose a fish at the net now its completely my own daft fault.

-monkeyhanger

won't have to worry about getting the fish over the net in the dark then just the weight of all the other fish that happened to be within 6 foot of the margins when you put it in lol.

Moilin de ruchec

October 22, 2009 by horsedentist

Hi Boys

Back from my excursion to France lake looks really good.  I saw a 40lb carp caught while I was there but no cats had been out. Mind you it was damn cold at night with frost most nights.

Re: I don't bloody believe it !

October 5, 2009 by horsedentist

Have you tried the scrap yards?

needs to be same part number and year of manufacture as yours.

The ECU went on my explorer about a year ago bought one from a scrap explorer £100 plugged it in and off you go runs rough for about 50 miles till it self learns then sweet as a nut.

worth ago if the motors ok apart from that.

its that time again

Don't talk about me while I'm gone and if you get any spare fillets Dave put some in the freezer for me PMSL.
