Apart from Nath, is anyone going to be brave enough this year?
I have intentions of giving it a bash down at woodys a couple of times maybe , but i love me Zander fishing just as much so who knows,
Pass I'm afraid, will be giving the piking and trout my undivided attentions from now
i will be giving it a couple of sessions. Like Bri the venue will be woodys. As its a 250 mile round trip the weather needs to be right though. Will be spending lots of time this winter for the pike and zeds and am looking for a first zed from a river.
"m looking for a first zed from a river."
No point bothering with the trent now .....
I reckon I may have one more catting session before winding the rods in completely - might be this week - might be next... but that'll be it me thinks.
Wonder if I can get a 20lb pike this year?
here's a question - what baits will you be using for winter catting? are we assuming that they are going to be mopping up carp anglers baits during mild spells or are you planning on going predator stylie with sub surface live / dead baits?
where abouts is woodys? essex?
Hi Carl,
Yes woodys is in corringham, essex. Unfortunatley you cant use liveys at woodys, which is why i dont fish there in the summer. i will give it a go using kebab rigs with chunks of seabaits, squid etc, and also use luncheon meat, mattesons and so on. i may use boilies on 1 rod. i will probably fish 1 rod hard on the bottom, i rod popped up just off bottom and 1 rod mid water. i thik it is a case of trial and error and see what (if anything) works.
How did it go in france by the way?
I'll be putting a night a week in for the cats over winter. Who knows...? Baitwise, I've reverted to one rod on double 30mm fishmeal pop-ups; the other on p-p-p-pellets and trusty worms on the third. In the past fortnight, only the pellets have led to a cat on the bank, but we'll see what happens in the next few months. Fingers crossed.
I take it your not allowed to livebait at your venue damon lol
Yes, I've been using livebaits since July-ish, but I'm presuming that the cats won't be feeding actively enough to warrant using them over winter. I've certainly noticed a lack of interest in my livebait rod since the weather's cooled down. Obviously I'm also just going off what I've read and seen online. It seems that most people call it a day till March-time so it's a bit of an alien territory! If anyone knows any different please let me know!
Damon,
Talk to "Rodney" as he battered his local waters last year. Send the bleeder a PM!
What does bleeder mean ? and is this a northern word or a skouse word ?
its slang for a gobby little git, i dunno why they used it on you though Nath lol
Hi guys
Ive been off site for a few months sorting out a new job and moving house etc, ive finaly got my tv, phone and broadband sorted. Ive had a read of most of the threads to get myself back up to date and im gagging to get out fishing again. Is it worth fishing for Cats in the winter ? I never got one during the warmer months so will it be worth it now ?
Im a lot closer to Orchid and St Johns will these venues produce in the colder months ?
To me winter means carp and pike fishing and plenty of room to do it. this year that carp and pike fishing is going to be on the cat lake all year so hopefully i'll pick up a few cats on the kinder days. if not then i'll still get the odd slimy thing on my unhooking mat.
