I have not really had a proper go with the lures, cant really find a venue around me that I would feel comfortable throwing them around to be honest. I may have one lined up for next year but its early days on that one yet. The lure I had in mind was either some nice spoons, the ones I caught the cat in india on, or I have a lovely white Big S with a cracking rattle. In fact nath you have just inspired a new topic of discussion I think. I will start it off now.

I would have loved to see the look on gerrys face when you turned up and started 'thrashing the water to a foam'! suprised the old bugger didn't drop dead on the spot! grin
If you're still on there next year me and Bri may be able to feed ya and get you drunk again as we've talked about doing a session or two down there. wink

Hi Nathan, Wow mate - seriously impressed! I am an avid lure angler and fish for many species with artificial bait. I have only caught catfish on lures abroad so your posting has really whet my appetite.

I hope you don't mind if I ask you a few questions?

What time of the year did you catch your cats and do you know what the water temp was? I am guessing it is too late in the year now for the UK?

How deep is the lake you are fishing and how deep did you retrieve your lure?

Did you stick with trebles or change to single? - If so did you miss many takes?

Sorry for all the questions mate but I am seriousl;y gonna try and catch one and need all the help I can get.

Cheers, Big-S

Hi nath, sorry you cant get back on mate, I will try to figure a way about sorting that. It all got a bit out of hand didnt it and many apologies for acting in haste mate. Water under the bridge now, and you are welcome on here as much as you want. I will have a good crack this weekend at getting that sorted. Am based in hull mate, and the cat waters around here are very very twitchy about things like lure fishing. Am going to have a good look around for somewhere though. Do you get up north at all, am still trying to get some of the southern lads sorted for this charity thing at emmotlands next year. Am suprised a free bar, barby and proceeds to charity have not got you all beating the door down. Especially as its one of the most welcoming venues I have ever fished, and the fry up delivered to the bivvy in the morning is cracking. Come on lads dont let me down on this one. I hope to get down south a bit next year, will be tough with the baby coming along but hopefully we can hook up and compare lures over a beer and the bite alarms.

Hi Big S  i caught the 78 the first weekend of september but managed to beat my pb last weekend with a beast of 85lb 1ozs which is the largest freshwater fish caught on a lure in the uk im over the moon grinall my lure caught cats have come from the bottom 4 foot of water. the spot i caught the beast from was 12ft deep and i changed the treble for a single as i would never use treble hook for cats hope this helps and good luck atb Nath
