well for you southerners there's probably at least another month or so of good catting available but for those of us lucky enough to live in the glorious North of the country I reckon we have maybe another 3 weeks at most - last year I did my last cat session on 13th October, but in reality didn't expect to catch after the middle of september.

Now its still mild but nights are cool - I'm thinking of trying smelly seabaits - peeler crab, mussels, prawns etc I reckon the time for the pellet and live bait approach are pretty much over for the season.

Any suggestions?

Carp baits anyone?????????????????

I am not sure that we have a month left down here either I always use the pondwood catch rates as a good indicator for most years, but this year they have plumeted early.I think the lack of rain is a big factor all the lakes are down. When we were at pondwood last weekend the main lake was down 18 inches.
That corner where you fished is only about 18 inches deep!.

i will be fishing until the first frosts. I will probably switch over to bottom baits now though. i may have 1 rod on liveys but will fish popped up off the bottom as opposed to on on the surface. I will be giving it the odd go through the winter as well, as long as we have some mild spells.

I reckon lobworms popped up 6" or legered liveys . I shall be sticking it out for the cats  until end of october .
This year I'm going to get myself a zander and I must make more of an effort with the pike.

Hoping to fish on till the end of Oct using pellet, sea baits and leeches. Not sure how my hands will cope with the cold so will play it by ear

This time of year I fish my liveys a foot or so off the bottom and go with fresh deads or bloody baits, as oils start to loose their effectiveness as it gets colder, baits like lamprey, liver and kidney. You still cant beat the fresh killed deads though like roach and skimmers. I have two more trips left in me then its on to chasing a cod in the humber estuary and some winter deadbaiting for chub. The best way of fishing over the winter in my opinion.
