I have just repaired a couple of my barbel rods that I had snapped the tips off and thought to myself 'this is not to hard, am sure I could build my own rod' any tips? Anyone done it before. Want to make it 3lb test with around 12 eyes. Going to start working on it at the end of the season so its ready to go next year, and as you can tell it will be called the moggy buster. If it works well I may even put them on sale, but at the moment they will be just for me. One of my biggest ambitions is to have a rod with my name on it so if anyone has ever built one then I would appreciate any tips.
Would anyone have any thoughts on what would make the perfect cat rods? Test curve, number of rings, handle preference and so on? Gonna start putting some designs together soon.
4 to 4.25lb test curve
fighting grip (above reel)
not sure on the number of rings but more than a carp rod
You could always have em drilled out, save money on the rings lol
I had a set of venom spods 4lb tc, but they only had 6 rings on them and were painfully thin at the butt end, especially when your playing a cat, i had the butts built up a little and also a fighting grip fitted above the reel which made it a little better when playing a cat, i caught my 60 on them, but have now treated myself to a set of the catfish pro persuaders in 4.5 tc . a much better catting rod, thicker butt and handle goes far enough up past the reel seat and it also has 9 rings which makes it a much better through action
