Hi
I am a new member of this forum and also to catfish angling, as of yet I have not managed to break my "duck" I have been a very keen Pike angler for a good number of years, I live in Connahs Quay, North Wales and Pike fish mainly around the North Wales and Cheshire lakes.
I have been a member of Lymm anglers for 15 years+ and so have been targeting there waters for my 1st catfish this season.
On one of Lymms waters I have been fishing I have managed to only catch small Perch whilst trying for livebaits, I was wondering if a small Perch would be a suitable livebait to use ?
Thanks in advance
Dave Wynne
Hi Dave and welcome to the forum. If thats what prey fish are available then trust me, the cats will nail 'em. One of the advantages of perch are that they are very hardy and work well. Ian Whittaker fishes all the lymm waters for cats and has done since god was a lad (only joking Ian!), i'm sure he would be able to answer any queries you may have.
Hi Dave and welcome to the forum.
Hi Dave
Welcome to the forum you will get all the answers and help you need on here to help you get your first cat. The first ones the hardest.
The only cat I have ever caught on perch was 28 lb so they do eat em but I have to say I have not had much luck with them since.
Howdoo Dave wellcome
It Good evening Mr Wynne. Small eels are better than small perch if you can catch any
.
It was nice to chat last week , I blanked again on monday
.
The big one came out of the vale on tuesday at 55.8 . Mate went down and all 3 boathouse swims were taken plus all the bivvy pegs as well. He was going to go home but took the front off his pioneer and fished the other bank............. he missed his first run and hit his second, he's just a bit happy
Eels seem to be like rocking horse you know what, these days can't find anywhere to catch any down my way and tried 5 tackle shops and no frozen sections either.
Eric
Eric, have you tried Nev Fickling? He usually has frozen eel available and will post them.
My mate once caught a 30lb cat that coughed up a little perch, will put the photo up. I love fishing perch as they last for ages. One thing I do though is I use some scissors and cut the spines of, I have noticed pike spit perch out when they feel the spines so I trim them off just to be sure.
Hi Ian
Yes it was good to chat the other week - I done 2 days looking after the aeration equipment, so I have sorted out my overstamp for next season which is a bonus.
I am going to give the flash another overnighter this midweek, it looks like it produced a nice fish for a member in the last few days. Hopefully this will be the the session where I break my duck !!!!!
The Vale has produced a few of its cats in the last week or so by the looks of it, well done to your mate on the capture of the big one.
Tight lines
Dave
