Hi All,

Am thinking of spending a weekend on the Club Lake at Orchid.  It will most likely be the weekend of the 14/15/16 or 21/22/23.  Plan would be to go Friday pm to Sunday pm.

Anybody fancy joining me?

Also, if anybody has any helpful hints or tips it would be appreciated.

Cheers,
Adrian

I've never fished there but here is some stuff from the website:

At just under 2 acres, the Club Lake holds an abundant supply of just about everything including numerous Cats, 7 of which are over 30lbs and 2 over 40lbs.

£20 for 24 hours.
Only 2 rods.

Contact details:
Orchid Lakes
Abingdon Road,
Dorchester on Thames,
OX10 7LP

T: 01865 341810

Will give them a call tomorrow to check availability and post anything of interest.

Just a quick update.........

There is a match booked on the club lake on 22nd August, so it looks like the 14/15/16 August.

Apparently there is no need to book so the plan would be to turn up sometime Friday and fish through till Sunday.

Let me know if you want to join in.  So far it's me, my dad and BigTrev.

SAS - any more thoughts on contacting them re: filming etc.

Only been there once myself and blanked. Its a bloody long walk round to club lake. marsh will carry your gear round for you in his pick up, i cant remember if he charges or not, i didnt bother and it bloody killed me. The lake is shaped like a spoon and the swims at the fat end are very popular, i think they are the best swims but aint to sure to be honest.

So now for the report:

Arrived at the lake about 1.30 after being dropped off (glad we decided to pay for that, the walk would not have been fun).  Whilst setting up, a chap called Andy in an adjacent swim landed a good 20lb cat, so things were looking good.
Later that evening my dad had a 15lb mudpig on a string of pellets, not the target but a good scrap all the same.
In the early hours of Saturday morning, the aforementioned Andy hooked into a larger fish thener handed the rod to my dad while he looked for his headtorch!  He found it returned to the rod and landed a cat (known as Dent) at an all time high of 50lb 3oz.  My Dad was quite relieved that he hadn't lost it in the few moments he had hold of the rod.  It was a lovely looking fish and the biggest I've seen on the bank to date.
So things were really looking good now.  Unfortunately that was pretty much it.  During the nights we both had several dropped runs (you know the ones that are screaming until you get out of the bivvy and stand by the rod at which point it stops!).
I did try for a mudpig on one rod Sunday morning.  Three 16mm pellets on a size 2.  The result a screaming run and the fish landed.....................a snotty of <1 lb.  The bait wasn't even in it's mouth!  Oh well that's fishing!

Conclusion; a nice venue, well run and some friendly anglers.  Well worth another visit.  And hopefully next time the cats will be more active!!!
