Anyone tried them, either the small whole ones or chunks of larger ones. I am well into the old fluff chucking now and thought I might stock the freezer up with some but wanted some feedback first. Was thinking of just hooking up some nice big chunks and freelining them around? What you all think?
tried it last year - I know welsman tried salmon - didn't catch but reckon it should be a pretty good bait - have caught a few pike on trout in the past - are you still fluff chucking at the mo - has a seriously high oil content -
Cats in the aquarium go mad for it - in fact at the expense of other food stuffs so there must be something in it.
Chucking the fluff when I can mate, we will have to have a day at star carr and stock up mate.
I was fluff chucking on Saturday at Bellflask (near Ripon) had a very good day with 9 trout (my mate had 18). It was 'just one of those days' where we started fishing and started getting them out straight away.
Mostly out on cats whisker but I also had one out on a cdc hares lug (OFF THE SURFACE - over the moon in the conditions) and bloodworm pattern
Excellent days fishing and the water was gin clear - just as clear as Avington or Dever. A small jack pike actually attacked my mates bag of fish (in the water).
I will be VERY interested if cats start getting caught on trout as I always give mine away.
Will keep you posted mate, got some trout oil to inject the bait with too, give it some extra kick!!
Do you think it would it matter if I used some other oil rarther than trout ......... say lamprey, herring or mackerel ? I can't seem to find any trout oil is the only problem.
I think my first session at willowbank will see 1 rod with trout section on as I have just thought of a unusual method of presenting it (if it works I will pass on).
It is on running water dave, fluff chucking on the lakes for the rainbows is all year round. As for the trout oil chris, I just happened to get hold of some a while back, to be honest any fish oil will do. You know my preference is half a skimmer injected with herring oil. Am gonna try the trout with the herring oil too early season to see how that responds. You wont drag me away from the herring oil, it has made so much difference to my catch rates.
how do you compare herring oil to salmon oil ?
I've used salmon oil for years piking and it always works - have failed with herring oil - although have caught plenty of fish on herring and sprats themselves
I think just plain trout would do without enhancement -
talking about oily - anyone caught a cat on blueys ? I've tried them a few times - very very oily - never even had a pick up
I know evo has tried and had the same response as you mate. I think when it comes to the oils its a case of you are confident in what you have had success with. I love the herring oil, but I know that others love different oil. I fancy giving the lamprey oil a try this year too. The salmon oil is supposed to be cracking stuff. You can buy massive tubs if it on e-bay for not much money either.
fantastic mate - did you get it off the bank at the car park end? - massive head on it !!!
Got it on the drop on a pink fly egg at the far end in the real deep water. First cast, the fly was given to me by my next door neighbour. It was a real tall and short fish. Really thought it would go ten. Never mind its still getting entered into the trout master thing though.
Nice Trout Karl,well done dude
Oh yes, check me out. That trout got me through to the trout masters venue final in the big troutmaster competition. Oh yea, oh yea. ( doing a little jig) lol. I even got a posh sow on badge!
Ah yes the troutmasters badge - your name will have also been in the Troutfisherman magazine. I got a few years back when I was always fly-fishing .................... good result for you
