Anyone got any amazing new rig ideas for next season then to go with the new bait ideas, or are you all keeping these things under wraps? lol. I must admit I have a variation on the dumbell rig I want to try out, along with my river rig. And I also have a long range deabbait rig, or even short range, it just allows you to fish with a lead but the cat feels no resistance untill it far too late thats for sure. Its a variation of my pike rig that I think is gonna be a killer for cats on larger waters, or areas where freelining is not possible. I have been a bit busy this winter identifying the problem areas with cat rigs and trying to sort them so watch this space. I will have photos once I have tested them.
i hav but im not going to say untill i know they work
i'm going to use the same rigs that i have confidence in. 45lb braid and a size 4 hook, though i may step up to a sixe 1/0 for deads/lives. also going to give nighttime float fishing a chance, with a little glow stick in the float and luncheonmeat, going to try for my smallest ever cat lol.
Im the same as you Nick,me is thinking i am going to approach the ebro exactly the same way this year, although i did learn from a few mistakes last year when the cats completely went of the pellet a couple of times for a couple of weeks and were predating on a fry run coming through the dam at Riba Roja.
Gonna use bigger pebbles on a semi running rig to penetrate first time!
My thoughts...........Im gonna fuckin hammer em!!!!!!
nick small cats will take maggots in the day, all day! i normally target in the day on my local to pass the time after i've caught my lives, just keep a few maggots going in often and use a bit of ground bait, worked a treat for me! try getting as close to reeds as possible of your lake has them! Ive had them from 4" this way.

My brother's had a few decent size cats on the medusa rig! I just can't be assed to stick the little buggers on the cork ball lol
He puts em all on one at time so they are all vertical looks really good and works but takes him ages to make a rig up lol.

I'm going to be using bigger livebaits - I think that my local cats are not interested in 2 and 3oz livebaits that i've been using - I am thinking that something in the range of 8 - 10oz may be a better bet -
Was reading something interesting on prey size selection - its a common feature of other animals so why not the cats - although opportunistic I reckon if faced with a bigger bait they may be more inclined to take, and there is the added advantage that a larger live bait may have a broader attraction range.
I was thinking about a variation on a maggot rig (called the medusa rig is it?) was thinking about rigging a couple of large maggot rings to a hair - popped up

i just cover the cork ball in superglue and put it in the middle of a pint of maggots for long enough for it to dry and it works a treat for carp, might give that a go if it's good for the smaller specemins. i know of one spot full of reeds too.
I wont be moving from my trusty baits much, but I cant wait to try to my new dumbell and ledger rig. Feel pants at the moment so it will be a couple of weeks yet I think for that. Ice and frost here today, was gonna go and blank tomorrow but I think I will save my money.
