I hate being cold too - but an enthusiastic start to my blanking will see me on the banks at the end of feb -- am now getting cabin fever --- must get some nights away !!!!!!!

Me too mate, itching to dust the rods off but this cold weather seems never ending!! As for when I will start, it all depends on the weather. I follow the local late news. When the Tench are out then its time to go. I will get the gear sorted when I am happy that the temperature is on the way up. I did a session at willowbank middle of last feb, the weather was lovely on the run up then on the morning of the session I got there and the ground was thick with frost. Needless to say it was a very expensive blank. We are in feb next week and they are still forcasting snow, the trouble with catting is that I dont mind wasting my money and blanking if I start the session confident, you can just put it down to timing and that the cats are off the binge, I like to turn up expecting to catch not hoping to catch. March is my normal starting point, as to when in march the weather gods dictate that am afraid.

I know what you mean Karl although I always go hoping to catch - rather than confident that I am going to catch - I reckon I can tip the scales in my favour - deep water - constant temps etc should get the cats feeding - I think just as important is a nice period of settled weather - doesn't have to be sunbathing temps but I reckon a week of moderate highs, some nice soft baits  - you'll see my optimism with a 30lber on the bank before the end of march!!!!

i'm starting catfish fishing on the first day of the season June 16, gonna get down there at 4:00 AM to get first choice of swim when the bailiff unlocks the closed season padlocks. at that point i'm going to do a full week without leaving.

hopefully i will get on bagshot lea before that though and start a bit sooner, but getting an exchange ticket is a pig.

Dont ask me why? But i usually start and finish my catting on the Equinox's. This year it is on the 20th of March and I will finish on the 22nd of September. It's got nothing to do with the earth tilting and all that crap, just think its a good time to start. If i had to wait until June 16th for my cat season to start! I would move.

Tell me about it mate, nick seriously you are missing half the season. You are starting catting way too late, is there no close day ticket waters near you?

the only place i can fish for cats during that time is Bagshot lea which is about 1/2 an hour away and it is very hard to do a night on there. it really annoys me but the next closest place is about an hours drive which my mum would never be convinced to docrying   once i can drive it will be a lot easier, 2 years to go now. hopefully my mate will larn to drive next year but i dont hold out much hope.

Give bagshot lea a few day sessions then, fish to cover and margins. Dont wait till june you will miss the big feed up, I always find june jjune july and august are slower months than the early and late months of the season.

i will give it a few night sessions if i can. to be honest it will be easier to do a week solid, once or twice then it will to keep going back and forth. if we have the exchange tickets i'll only have to pay a fiver a night.

Can you not stick your tackle on a bike and cycle nick ? Thats what I used to do - although I suppose an hours car drive is quite a trek on a push bike - no trains or buses ? - my god man - you need to start before June 16th - why not have a go before the season closes in March ?

Rog - you're such a hippie !!!!

i'll give it a good go before the closed season kicks in on april 1st (slightly extended season) hopefully i'll get 1 or 2 out but tbh, my exams run may/june and if the cats were coming out revision would go out the window, so it's kind of a good thing this year.
lophius, if i tried to cycle to bagshot lea from my home it would kill me.

"lophius, if i tried to cycle to bagshot lea from my home it would kill me"

I used to cycle from milford (godalming) to badshot lea - used to be a cracking garden centre there with a very good aquatics section. Kids nowadays have no stamina eh ???? ha ha -

Are you doing GCSE's - reckon you can start the revision after april fools day

yer, mate, GCSE's supposed to have started revision last week if the school hed their way. the furtest ican get with tackle is sandersons, which is about 6 miles. dont get me wrong i will be doing some catting before and during but the closed season actually ends up just right this year.
