that bivvy does look good. wishing i'd taken up the offer now. ho hum.
by the way, russ, you do know that full realtree camo isn't needed for Pike??
yes i do know nick but as it was cold and the realtree clothing is warm.
fair enough. good results tho m8. shamoe you lost that one in the night but that's the way it goes with fishing. so far this season i've done three pike sessions, one of those 24 hours, and out of 5 runs, i've had 1 fish... notably that one fish was the only run on Karl's pike rig. whether i caught with it because it's got some sort of fantastic hooking propertie, or whether it was the sudded increase in current speed is up for debate.
well done russ mate, i enjoyed your company once again, and this time it was your turn to catch....
Did you try the running water rig nick or the paternoster rig. Been having a think while I was soaking in the hot tub at the log cabin we have just been in, that large paternoster rig my be the solution to putting large baits, ie deads and such, long distances but still keeping the resistance to almost zero. There is no denying the large running paternoster gives the fish no resistance on the take and allows large leads to be used or even on running water where freelining would be a probable. Thoughts much appreciated.
Oh and if you are using the running water popped up rig nick, how about trying a bait flag to give the dead a bit of action?
it was the one i posted on here for you m8. i'm not fishing the running water streach i only used the rig because the drain i was fishing decided to start pushing through at some point during the night. i was left scratching my head how to fish it, so i put out both rods with your rig upstream. i did use something to add attraction to my bait. i used one of the things i will DEFO use for cats next season, it's called fish sauce from tesco 68% anchovie extract, plus salt and sugar and oil. PVA friendly, too.
back on topic, i injected the bait with some of that then added my favourite lure pike trick. now don't laugh, but i tied nicked some red tinsel from the loft and tied it on the trace. it looks lovely in fast flowing water. i'm thinking about soaking some tinsel in varios favours too.
So it was the pop up rig then, nice one. What did you think, looks good in the water doesnt it?
i couldn't really tell what it looked like as the margins were really deep and the water was chocolate coloured. but if it works in conditions like that then it must be good.
