Following on from the subject of banksticks or rodpods then how about bite alarms? Lets face it we can easily spend stupid money on these, and when it comes to being tackle tarts then this is the biggest one of the lot. I know the Delkims are about the best you can buy, but for those that dont want to or cant spend silly money on a three or four set with reciever, what else is out there and what do we all use. Myself I am breaking in my set of Prologic Senzora VTSW and so far so bloody great. Daytime and nightime mode, excellent receiver, been in some nasty rain so far and have not caused me problems. Also tone, voume, and sensitivity settings and at £150 for the full set I am really impressed, but thats just me, how about you lot, is it delkims all the way or are some of you out there willing to look outside the box? Also what makes a good bite alarm for catfish fishing, is there anything that your alarm must have and is a receiver an essential?

i got some 'Max Performance' ones off ebay. 3 alarms and a sounder box (wire type) for 15 quid. they have tone and volume control, they are medium sensitivity and the sensitivity can't be adjusted, but they make a noise when the line is pulled through them which is all that counts. decent latcher light bright enough to see in the darkest night or heavy rain and thy have survived the rain all 'summer' fantastically. have been using them since new year through frosts and rain, even hail one time and good as new excep i trod on one, lol. sounder box is pukka too. and to be honest for the price i can buy new set a year.

Very true. As long as they do the job then in my view the price and name is not really an issue. The reson I went for the prologics is that they come with the wireless receiver, and as my fishing gets more and more social these days it comes in very handy.

trouble is the WDAA inforce a STRICT rule u cant leve the swims with ur rods in the water. got chucked off a coupla weeks ago for going about 10 meters from my rods talkin to somone so the wireless reciever dont do much for me anyway. i just bury the cordsunder the woodchips and hang it from my bivvy.

Well in that case a receiver is no good to you. Personally Those kinds of places drive me nuts. I love having the receiver now, i dont venture too far but it allows me to have a walk round and see whats happening.

thing is tho, they had a couple of people (mudpig anglers i must add in) lose tackle to big fish both in the cat lake and in the big carp lake including a whole pod pulled in by a decent cat where some einstein-like person had forgotten to turn the baitrunner on.

"whole pod pulled in by a decent cat where some einstein-like person had forgotten to turn the baitrunner on." - just me that this has happened to in the past then !!!! oops

I use fox mmx's - great alarms - shame about the lack of a receiver - means that I have to have them turned up full wack at night - which must be slightly annoying to others around the lake - I've always had fox alarms - just habit - maybe if I ever get some cash I can upgrade !!

I use the Fox EOS's, when I bought them I thought I would never need a remote - I now wish I had bought a remote set as these alarms don't have a remote alarm (only a cabled one)

Been giving some serious considerations to buying some new alarms after a few good sessions at Willowbank and probably waking everyone up on all 3 lakes when the FOX EOS alarms I currently went off as they are set LOUD.

As everyone has said here the Delkims are nice but with times as hard as they are I can't justify spending at least £500 on a set of 4 alarms and receiver. I do like the look of Johnny's pro-logic polyphonics and also the fox str's (I think they are called that).

Decisions, decisions ................ well what ever I get I will hopefully have it sorted before the Katmando event

Try a set of Fox dxr's, they go for around £200 for a set of 3 on ebay & thats with a remote reciever.
Ive had mine for around 3 years now with no probs what so ever, i think there is a few sets on there now.

The dxr's have been discontinued for a while now and the e-bay one's are all second hand (if anything goes wrong with them I would be stuffed, if I was getting plain alarms I would'nt hesitate to buy second hand ones - but for remote ones I would rarther get new ones).

My options are as far as I can see are .................. (4 transmitters and receiver)

Delkims - £629.50

Fox EOS-R - £486

Fox RX (set of 3 & receiver) £449

Fox STR (set of 3 & receiver) £325

ANOTHER option wouold be the Fox Micron TXR system which uses leads from my existing EOS units to a transmitter (located next to rods) which then sends the signal to the receiver - thats £180.

Failling that I could keep my money (keep waking everyone else up on the lake) and go for a trip to the Ebro
