has anyone tried using squid? if so how did you present it? i have had a lot of luck with liquidised squid as a boilie addative, but i've had nothing but missed runs when using it whole.
i freelined it an had 2 missed runs on it
anyone else tried squid as either a bait addative or a hookbait?? it seems a lovely bait, maybe you could stuff it with things like belachan, liver, worms? i know squid with pellets inside (condom rig) is a winner. any ideas appreciated.
Never really used it mate, I know evo has had a session on it but didnt get any action. Why not give it an extended bash next season and see how you go?
i plan to m8, that's why i'm asking for your advice on how to use it.
am thinking of using it this weekend. gonna try stuffing it with lob an redworms.
never caught anything in freshwater with Squid - used it with great success in the sea though !!!
lol. what rig you gonna use johnny? i was thinking along the lines of hair rigged as if you were using condom rig then sliding worms up the hair instead of pellets so they stick out the bottom.
using a big hair so can thread it through an back throu the squid filled with lobs, the hair will act like a stitch letting the lobs wriggle out slowly giving off a little movement which hopefully will act as an atractent. freelined of course with as minimal resistance

Thats makes 2 of us, though i know quite a few people who have had some good results with it.
Same here fellas, tried and failed a few times. Its one of those baits where I never feel totally happy with it on the hook. I always sit there thinking I would stand a better chance on something else.
i feel same about boilies lol, a dunno squid just gives me that feeling that on the right venue it will produce nice fish for me
squid is defo a good flavour, just look how devistating carp company black squid boilies are. i'm thinking of cutting the squid into little squares and using as a kebeb rig, instead of using it whole.
I have the CCG Simon Clarke catfishing season dvd and he uses squid on it, he threw some free offerings into the swim then just hooked the squid at the top and cast it out (I am sure he had a swan shot on the line). He bumped a fish off it and missed it.
I am going to have a bash at using it next season.
I fish squid on a long hair kebab style as nick suggests. i put a bit of rig foam on the hair first, then about 5 baby squids then another bigger bit of rig foam and finally a couple more baby squids and a then a decent sized hair stop.
Omit the rig foam if you don't want to pop it up. I don't fish this very often but it is useful in waters where there are loads of Carp as they don't seem to bother with popped up squid compared to pellets and meat etc.
Try and get hold of a copy of the predators program that is on sky regular nick, it may be on you tube. On the catfish episode they fish a sqiud rig. Worth a look mate. If you cant find it I have that episode, the wet nets catfish episode with the two 60lb cats and the accidental angler indian episode all on a dvd. Give me your address and I will post you a copy. The india thing is only on there because thats the same camp I was on organised by the same guy who sorted it for the bbc. Its just sentimental really. Cracking program though, really captures what mahseer fishing is all about.
i've seen the wet nets episode with mat and mick's 60's. i take it the predators episode you said about is the one with Simon Scott? if so i've seen it. thanks for the offer though m8.
I had a cat on Sale with squid
Believe it not it took me 4 attempts to hook it, I cast out within seconds it went off, struck and nowt cast same area struck felt it this time it was off, 4th attempt I jerked the rod into it and hooked it all this happened in about 15 mins.
hook through it twice a hair 2 foot of line then a poly ball so in 6ft of water it was about 2 ft up
