there's plenty of reels on ebay, but i wouldn't trust ebay with a couple of hundred quid. i found somwhere you can get the big baitrunner LC's for 114 quid each, i'm hopefully gonna get a pair.

my friend has a pair of shimmy st 10.000 RA and he's *already* pulled for a break 3 times and had 4 mid doubles mudpigs on them, they're not even scratched.

Shimano 6500b's for me, not cheap but the best there is (in my humble opinion), i saw on the thread somebody mentioned okuma powerliners. i have a set of these which i use for pike and zander, they are very good reels and i've had cats to mid 20's on them, however i contacted their technical people and was told that they should be fine for cats to 60lb over and above that they couldn't gaurentee the gears would stand upto the strain, so certainly not a reel for france or Spain, or some of the big english cats for that matter.

Just got a set of the new Shimano 12000d baitrunners , they look like a combination of the Baitrunner Big blue's and  6500's. Very impressed on first impressions and can't wait to give them a try, will let you know what i think once i have been out a few times with them

i was in Laneys the other day and they said you had picked them up. They're now busy compiling a list of other shiny new stuff to sell you!

I can vouch for the Shimano LCs. Very sturdy reel and not that heavy, in my opinion. They usually appear on eBay fairly frequently at around £250-£300 for three, which ain't bad!

Am shopping after before the season kicks off next year, I have a real soft spot for the GTE-B's. Lovely reels and they look great on the rods. They go quite cheap on e-bay, am after 4 8000's. Have been offered a new job which comes with a car so the wife to be has said I can use the money from selling mine to get some rods and reels. Not allowed to blow it all so I know what reels I want, now for the rods.

Tried the LC's and they did not help me as they made the rods feel unbalanced so got rid.
Got some 8000 XTE's and they made 20lb plus mono go spring to often. Keep them for Carping and eel fishing.
Got some Daiwa Infintys and I have used them one full season and they are superb
