Anybody tried the catfish pro rig rattles yet? Was thinking of getting some and trying them on my surface livebait at willowbank in a couple of weeks and would appreciate any feedback. Hooking my livebait up in a new way thanks to a tip from slain and it will be perfect to attatch a rattle to.
made my owm mate and there ace get in ha ha
Hi
Can you tell me what the best position is for a rattle ie. where abouts on the trace is best to clip it.
thanks in anticipation.
Eric
i am not sure about that one mate just started using them i have made my own from kinder egg tubs i am using them as polly balls and putting lead shot in side and sealing them on my live bait booms will let u know how it goes . cant belive it the first good day for cats and i am at f ing work arghhhh
Will be using them on my livebait rig. I took a tip off slain and now instead of just hooking the livey through the tail root i am attatching a hair to the 1/0 hook, then pass your bait needle through the membrane in the fishes lower mouth, pass the needle through from inside the mouth though. Pull the hair through then lop it back onto the hook and secure it on the hookbend with some rig foam to stop the hai sliding off. It causes minimal damage to the fish and you can return it to live another day. Am thinking of attatching the rattle to the hair as it sits under the fish and should go like a trooper as the fish is fighting against the dumbell rig. Thats the plan anyway, will let you know how our rigs go after our next trip. The cats at willowbank will nail the surface livey any time of day and it can be quite a sight so its the perfect venue to try it.
i use them, tried them out once and since i havnt looked back.. on the first night i tried them had 3 runs on the livey with the rattle, none on the livey without. I use them about 1" from the hook, bt they need to be secured in place as they are boyant.
thanks for that laurance any preference for colour?
How do you secure them? are they really that good?
with the colour i dont really mind, atm i hav the yellow ones. And as i havnt been catting that long i dont really feel if i can say if there really effective or not, bt i catch using them and dont when im not, so i believe so. although next season will experiment to find out (can only get out once more this season). OH to secure them i use small spilt shot atm as its what i had in my tackle tht would work.
with a livebait, a rattle is absolutely essential. i make my own, but you can by them off of ebay. you will triple pike results and double cat results with a rattle, but even better are the pike vibrators run by a watch battery with static deadbaits.
vibrator what a good idea you can get cock rings out the jonny machine there about £2 and there water prouf gotta try them next year sweeet

Naughty naughty, but well funny lol.
not in that sense of the word though probably just as good. lol, in a few years ago there was a load of vibrators made especially for pike fishing, designed to fit like a rig rattle above the wire trace. you can still get them ocasionally on eBay (as did) , but i dont think you can buy them anymore in the UK.
gotta be very careful with wording on this topic, lol.
they clip direct on your line with a little ball bearing inside once clipped they are water proof
some reckon to let the clip slide up and down the line but I secure it next to the bait with a weight
it's worth supergluing them too as they sometimes come off the line during a fight.
if you superglue them you won't be able to reuse it
if it comes off in a fight its not a big loss
I have caught on Cats with rig rattles and without. I dont use them if Pike are present in the water because they seem to attract pike more than anything else!
That said Cats mostly hunt by smell and sensing vibration so I do think they help especially where nobody else is using them. My personal preference to increase vibrations for Cats to home in on though is to use a decent size bait or fish 2 lives together.
Any one got any theories on the best place to clip them? I have had problems with the live bait tangling on them (I must be doing something wrong)

Good advice Phil, here you go lads the inventor of the "Shoal Rig" that you lads where talking about the other day.
By the way welcome along Phil.

Never had a problem with tangles after I sussed the hair-rigging bit but anywhere on the hooklength as they will slide down to the eye of the hook- saying slide depends on the thickness of your hooklength, either way I secure sometimes with a weight shotagainst the eye of the hook
