Cheap and easy to get hold of mate, I pop down B&Q and buy a meter or two of mains electric cable for a couple of quid. Take the red and black wires (they may be brown and blue) out from inside and then pull out the copper wire so you are just left with the coloured wire sheath. I find it excellent, just the right stiffness and a fraction of the price, and you get two meters out of tube for the price of one meter of cable. You dont mind then how much you use and have no problems cutting it to whatever length you need. Let me know how you go.
drinking strawers stolen from burger king all the way!

Ok Ive gone and got some from one of the contractors working on my site and ive taken out the copper bits from the inside but now its quite bendy and even if I cut it to 8" lengths it still curves round. I presume it needs to be longer than the hook length so that any liveys cant swim round your mainline. Told ya I would be asking bone questions lol
hold it over a kettle and pull it to take out the bend. yes it does have to be longer ten the hooklink, preferably at least 1.5 inches longer. i'm not really into dumbell rigs so soz if that's not helpful.
You are better off looking on ebay you can get about ten lengths for around 1.50 my tackle shop does ten for £1. You need it at least 3 inches longer than your hook length. I never have a hook length longer than 12 inches and that stuff is just too bendy for a 12 inch hook length.

Cheers guys, ya never know till ya give it a go. I put some in my kettle and boiled it then stretched it and stuck it in the freezer so its quite stiff. I will make a rig up with it and also one with some shop brought stuff to compere them. Catching a cat on one is a different matter though lol.
i'll let you into my secret: drinking strawers. i paint them black using enamel pant as it strengthens them then you're ready to go.
ok but why paint them black ? From underneath it must stick out like a sore thumb and it doesnt look anything like a fish.
catfish are near enough blind, m8. the reason i paint them is that a straw by itself will bend or tear on the cast. the paint reduces that somewhat. any anyways, anything of any colour will be shillouetted against the sky and look black anyways. i'm not saying it's the ebst tactic, far from it, but it gives you another option
I have never had any probs with the mains wire tubing. Even though it does bend slightly once in the water it never tangles as the whole rig just pivots on itself. I use a piece about 6-8 inch long and fish a 4 or 5inch hooklink. A pain to tie but it keeps the fish right in the top layer. I just use it as I had loads left from my last india trip and it works a treat. It tends to stiffen up once in the water but its never been an issue for me.
OK ive made some up using both the electrical tubing and a straw, I will be testing them out sometime in the near future if the weather warms up.
Thanks
Whilst being dragged around Birmingham yesterday by the Missus I spotted a car display and they were dishing out balloons on sticks. I had a thought and asked for some sticks, they look just right to use for stiff rig tubing.
quick thinking ! And, they are available on ebay for about 3 quid for 30.
a true angler, you are. let me know know you get on with them m8.
